I happened to check our BBB listing today. We’re not a member (click here to see why) but they have a listing on us and I like to keep up with it.
Well, it turns out that the BBB is now assigning grades to businesses. A business can have letter grades from F up to A+. Our grade …

Huh? We’re the very model of a top-notch business according to the BBB. In business for 14 years, never a complaint, etc. How come we don’t get an A+?
In reading the fine print of their ratings system, they assign (or deduct) points for a whole host of categories, which is fine I guess. There’s a maximum of 90 points possible and for an A you have to get 85 to 87 points. It takes 88 points for an A+
So, where did we fall short? Ah, digging further, we see it’s only possible to “earn” 86 points, which is what I presume our score was. How do you get that last four points? You have to join the BBB, of course! That last 4 points is only available for BBB “accredited” members.
So, folks, it appears that with the BBB you can earn an A, but you can only buy an A+
I just heard from a high school friend after about 25 years. He mentioned that he wished he had know I was a photographer when he got married. They’re still trying to finish up with their wedding photographer.
They got married five years ago!
Being a wedding photographer isn’t exactly a high-energy job. Sure, the wedding day is pretty active, but then you have all that incredible food …
Plus, the rest of the time it’s pretty sedentary, lots of sitting at a computer. As a result, I’ve packed on quite a few pounds in the last few years. When Jean and I got married in 1996, I was a relatively OK 180 pounds. Last month, I was 225. I’m rapidly approaching 50 years old, I need to do something about this. It was getting to the point that I was getting out of breath just working around the house.
Jean teaches an adult Bible study called First Place, which centers around both spiritual and physical health. It has a simple, easy-to-understand weight loss program which I’ve been using for the last few weeks. I was really happy to see this morning that I’ve dropped back below 210! Any weight-loss program has a large loss in the beginning, but it’s amazing how much better I feel just losing that 15 pounds!
